clinique, you better be good!

I cashed in on this Clinique gwp deal. It's my first Clinique purchase EVER. I won't say what I got because it's a gift for my sister (she pokes in occasionally).

A part of me has always wanted to get some clinique because when I was little I would play around with my mom's empty makeup compacts. They were jade green. Are they still now? I don't actually know. The gwp also used to have plastic storage containers instead of flimsy makeup bags. Do you remember seeing them? They were white long shaped containers with a round top or lipstick organizers. We actually still have them from 10-20 years ago! I really want to go take pictures and post them later.

So anyway, I thought this little gwp was pretty awesome. I love stuff in white, and I can use ALL of the gifts. The online gwp is usually better than the in-store ones. Unfortunately the bag has a faux leather texture that isn't so smooth, but it's still cute cuz it's white. I always end up with many free bags that I have no use for.

I can't believe I actually bought a pencil bag from sephora, and I haven't used it yet. It was from their Moroccan collection. I love the print so much I had to have it! I love geometric designs. It's just too big to be considered a pencil case! It's more like stuff all your brushes in here kind of a case. It's a very well made case though. I like the clear vinyl interior lining. You can easily wipe off the mess.

Sorry if there are typos. I painted the kitchen today (3rd time this week), and my finger muscles are tired. My brain will think one thing, and my fingers will type wrong.

What's your favorite Clinique product? lmk down below!

Edward Cream, yes really!

What is Edward Cream you ask? My cute sister came up with it. So months ago I gave her some moisturizer I forgot about and didn't need anymore. (it must be good to get loads of free stuff from your big sis) Presenting Neutrogena Illuminating Whip Moisturizer. I don't think they sell this anymore.

I was looking at her collection and noticed that she was using the moisturizer I gave her... "you still use that?" I asked. "Yeah, it's my Edward cream!" she replied. "Yeah, it makes your face sparkle like Edwards!" she added. I forgot how sparkly the moisturizer was until I poked it and smeared it on my hand. And, by golly I realized that it IS Edward cream! It is so friggin ILLUMINATING that I think that's why I stopped using it! I think I originally bought this to help my dry skin. Once my skin stopped being so dry I just stopped using it.

So, I thought of something weird... if you find this stuff.. put it on your boyfriend, and he'll be your Edward vampire for the day (or night)!

What I got in the mail

I swapped with ect of e.motion in: motion. She is such a sweet gal, and I love reading her blog. She just posted some amazing photos of her trip to Kona. Please check her out. She makes these adorable little charms with clay. They are the cutest charms I have ever seen! L-R: Mochi, star, cupcake.

Stacieee's first batch of pretty bracelets. I had to get my hands on one of these puppies. She was after all my first blogger order! She included the pink one, shy cupid, as a gift. Thank you so much! They are more beautiful in person! I think she still has a few left.

I was so surprised to find this in my mail box. There was no need, but you hit the spot with asian, french, and sleeping goodies! Thank you so much! :) Joanna has a contest going on right now! Your odds are good to win. Please check her out! She also makes video posts instead of typing, so it's a nice break from the eye strain of reading so many blogs. (I still gladly read them all though!)

Sephora Friends and Family Plans

Aqua Eyes Collection Set $35

This is what I plan to buy during the Sephora Friends and Family Sale. What about you? I just discovered this set the other day. I love all of the colors. I have been lemming 21L(dark grey) and 23L (champagne) since they were released. I can't believe the two colors I wanted to buy are now in a set! Jackpot!

The buzz is that the sale begins Monday, October 19 through November 2. The code is FF2009 for 20% off. Here's hoping this is not just a rumor!

Has anyone sniffed Michael Kors Very Hollywood yet? I keep forgetting to. Did you like it? All I know is that the bottle is very pretty.

End of Summer Recipe. Just a tad late.

I made this Pesto back at the end of July after one of my many Basil harvests. What else am I supposed to do with mounds of basil? Next year I'm not planting so many seeds because I end up with more than I can use. This was my first time growing plants from seeds successfully. I'm so proud! I think having a growing kit helped.

I was searching around for a good recipe, and I think David Lebovit has a pretty good one. If you don't have one on hand, I would suggest mashing and adding parmesean, basil, pine nuts, and oil until you get the right consistency/flavor. That's what I do when I'm too lazy to measure.

I wanted to make the pesto old school, so for a long time I was searching for a decently priced mortar and pestle. It's harder to find than you think. At first I didn't think I wanted one of those stone ones. Too heavy and costly. $30? too much! The one I'm using here is a chrome one from Vietnam. It was one of things I wouldn't leave the county until I found. It was only a few bucks I think. I don't like it now, and I'll explain below.
David Lebovitz's Pesto Recipe
Four servings (about 1 cup)

If using a mini-chopper, or similar device, simply blitz all the ingredients together until as smooth as inhumanly possible.

2 cloves garlic, peeled
3/4 teaspoon coarse salt
5 cups (20g) loosely-packed basil leaves
5 tablespoons (75ml) olive oil
2 ounces (60g) grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 cup (30g) pine nuts, toasted

1. Smash the garlic and salt together in a mortar and pestle until smooth.

2. Coarsely chop the basil leaves, then add them to the mortar and pounding them into the garlic as you add them.

3. Once well-mashed, when they've become a fairly-smooth paste, pound in the olive oil, adding it a spoonful at a time, until well-incorporated.

4. Lastly, pound in the cheese, then the pine nuts.

5. Continue mashing everything for a few minutes until the pesto is as smooth as possible.

Fresh pesto should be served within a day or two after it's made. Otherwise the garlic can become overpowering. It can also be frozen for a few months, if well-wrapped.

My stash fresh from the garden. You gotta wash it and dry it! I left some of it in a cup of water, and it started to grow roots. No, not more basil!

The reason I don't like this mortar and pestle is because you can't get a good grip with a chrome mortar and pestle. I thought having it shiny and smooth would be good, but I learned that it's not. You need it to be able to have some friction, or you'll be smashing and pounding away forever. It would still be good for gauc though.

I finally found a promising one at World Market last weekend. They were having a 25% off friends and family deal so I ran out and bought it. I haven't tested it out yet, but it's rough on the inside so I think it will do just fine!

Sorry I've neglected the "garden" part of this blog for so long... Until next time!

Dao's MAC discovery

She's reporting how you can see the model's real lashes under the fake ones on the mascara ad. I can't believe they did this! This is why I buy drug store mascara.

Swap with Lisa and some extra Love!

Lisa of He Qi Crystal Designs and I did a jewelry swap! Here's what I got! Aren't these earrings so precious?! They remind me of my birthday cakes from when I was a kid. I'd always make my mom save me a flower to eat. I loved the blue roses! And, funny enough she had these one-of-a-kind flower clay earrings in her shop! yum!

Thank you so much for the masks! I love masks! woohoo! Cute pouch with apples! You guys should really check her out. She's a very popular jewelry maker in the online realm! I was originally drawn to her first company name HeHe Productions. The reason is because my very first website in highschool was named hehehehe. I think I named it that because I always preferred saying "hehe" when chatting vs "lol". I was never much of an "lol" girl, but I have since caved. My hehehehe site is no longer up, but I wish it was. I can't find the files. It was pre-facebook coolness. Anyhow...

Click to see what Adriyah sent me!

I also got a love package from Adriyah!! wow, I couldn't believe she wanted to send me her fan brush. I dunno why, but I like having fan brushes around. They're just fun and fluffy! Maybe it's the Asian in me. I love hand fans too. Thank you!! How did she know I love Origins? haha! I was so excited to see that and a Laneige sample.

Visit her blog As Pink As My Juicy and check out her blog sale!
