April myglam bag review and surprise bag

This is my first myphan myglam bag, and I wanted to see what the fuss was about. There have been good and bad said about this company who copied Birchbox, who copied My Pretty Pink Box. It's $10 (same as birch) and you get 4-5 deluxe and full size products (same as birch) every month in a bag/pouch. This month it's metallic pink! ($2 value?)

This month's theme is Girl's Night Out.

Shadow brush and liner brush - $2 value each?
The quality reminds me of Sephora collection brushes. It's actually a nice brush and densely packed.

Urban Decay 24/7 travel size liner in Woodstock - $6.40 each
You had the possibility of 3 colors. I would have preferred Perversion or Ransom but hot pink eyeliner will have to do. It'll be a challenge to make a wearable look.

Dermstore Lip Quench - $12 full size
A glossy lip moisturizer in a pale pink shade. Haven't tried it yet.

All-belle lashes in 2822 - $2?
Handmade in Taiwan. They don't look too bad but I've seen better. Like most Asian lashes it comes with a small vial of glue.

To add up the value of this month it's $24.40 and I consider that estimate generous. If you're paying $10 you should only hope to get something valued at $10-$12 anyway, right? Since that's half of my estimate I'd say this box was worth it. But will it satisfy everyone? No, because many people think they should open it to find makeup gold or something that looks like this:

Le Metier de Beaute Nail Laquer Set review

For a long time I've seen this brand, Le Metier de Beaute, on beauty blogs but I never purchased anything from them. Mainly because they are located in Neiman Marcus and their stuff is expensive! Thanks to the Nordstrom Anniversary sale going on NOW I can finally get my stubby fingers on them! All Nordstroms should have this in their nail polish section even if there is no counter. Check near the Butter Londons and Deborah Lippmans!

Nail polishes are like a beauty gateway drug. They are usually the most inexpensive product in the brand line and it's easy to develop an addiction from there.

Le Métier de Beauté 'Rock 'n' Romance' Mini Nail Lacquer Set (0.14 oz each) $25
The set includes:

• Heat of the Night
• True Romance
• Chrome Passion
• Midnight Rendezvous

Full size polishes are usually $15 at (0.25oz) and LE colors are $10 at (0.14oz). So the value here is $40!

Heat of the Night: a passionate black cherry, a beautiful vampy color. Drusilla from Buffy comes to mind. It's very pigmented in just one swipe!

True Romance: a delicate pale rose with a subtle metallic nude finish. This is what I wish Chanel Quartz was. The polish was streaky for me though.

Chrome Passion: a charcoal with holographic shimmer. So stunning and mesmerizing! I think holographics are my new best friend!

Midnight Rendezvous: a shimmering, steely midnight blue with blue and green shimmers. It's dark, mysterious, and spacey. I love it!

The last three are my favorites! If you're a polish fanatic you must check these out at your local Nordstrom! Even though the bottles are tiny, it's still a great value! Tiny things are cute!

The red and blue together remind me of the Moulin Rouge movie poster. I spent a lot of time obsessing over anything Moulin Rouge when it came out. It never leaves my mind. <3

May Birchbox, is it worth it?

So what is BIRCHBOX?
From them:

Every month Birchbox members will receive a curated box of luxe beauty samples. Each box will span beauty categories and deliver exciting products... you'll receive a selection of 4-5 samples...

The membership is $10/month and so far I got what they claimed. I did get beauty samples, but curated? Yes they chose them but they are not handpicked for each of their 20,000 subscribers.You will get 4-5 samples but not all of them will be "luxe." My advice, don't expect 4-5 deluxe samples. 3-4 more like!

First of all, I love the outer packaging. The bright pink and graphic design are eye catching (and it makes me happy). It's one of the reasons why I wanted to get this!

Inside is a sturdy kraft colored giftbox style box.

Under the first layer of tissue, a welcome card outlining the products.

Most of my samples wrapped up in matching pink tissue paper.

Four "deluxe" samples for May:
1. Archipalago Pomegranate Soap triple milled - gross
2. Bvlgari Mon Jasmin Noir sample - musky
3. Ahava Deadsea Water Mineral Hand Cream - nice but not special
4. Stila eye shadow in Terracotta (full size) - awesome, but not my usual color

So how well did Birchbox work?
1. Pretty much I wouldn't want to buy anything in my box, but I saw that other people got a Jouer lip gloss sample, and that peaked my interest. In fact, I bought one! A haul for another post. (I love it btw!)

2. Also, it got me to look into Bvlgari fragrances, and I'm so glad I did. I sniffed the other ones at Nordstroms and I love them much more! Especially BLV Eau D'ete! (new fav)

3. I'm REALLY curious about Pangea Lip Balm that I saw in other people's boxes.

So in a sense it DID work to get me to buy products!

Also included was a pretty card from tinyprints. I really like the quality of paper, and I'm a bit of a paper snob so I want you to know this is really nice paper! The print is a fun graphic that reminds me of my julu logo. ;)

Pros:

With all of the money that goes into putting it all together, $10 seems like a fair price. I think even "my pretty pink box" cost more than $10 when it first started. I wonder if alone shipping and packaging costs Birchbox $5 already. To me it's kinda of an exciting start-up company. Bravo to the women entrepreneurs! Seems more profitable than starting up a magazine...

Gotta admit it's kinda fun and next month is my birthday month so I'll just do it one last time. I bet the box will be "summer" themed so I'm curious- I can't help it! I'll put my money on sunscreen and tanning products! BUT it's not worth it unless you like tossing your $10 up in the air and seeing what comes down. I'm crazy and I do! It's the THRILL! It's not like I need more samples to try... I get enough on my own, and I"ll be doing another post on this.

Plus if I get 50 more points I'll have enough for a $10 credit. I'm a sucker for rewards programs. damn.

You get 10 pts for each box, and 10 pts for each product feedback you give so I have 50 pts right now. I did 4 feedback surveys because I received 4 samples this month (40 pts). You also get 50 pts for each friend you refer via e-mail. At 100 points you can redeem a $10 credit! One more box would put me at 100, yay! [more info]

Is it worth it?
Yes BUT only for 1-2 months at a time. I don't need a steady stream of samples each month b/c it is so easy to get samples for free. Plus with all of the blog reading and YouTube watching, my list of things to try never ends!

This is a really pretty color! I applied 1-2 coats to my sister's nails. It became a little streaky on the fourth finger. I found the formula better on other shades. I don't know if it was me or this particular polish color. The pretty color makes up for it though. It's a strong pretty pink but not too bright. It does indeed dry fast and I like it!

These new Top Speeds are awesome! I think "meh" when it comes to the normal Revlon's but these I like! $3.99 at your drugstore.

Shiseido Tsubaki Shampoo Review

Many people claim this as the holy grail shampoo so how could I resist trying it?

At first I was like WOW my hair feels so soft and silky but then later in the day I noticed my roots were getting quite oily. Somehow though I think it makes my roots more oily. That's the sad thing. Also, some people say it adds some texture or something to the hair and I'm thinking it does on mine too. That's what gives it the silky feeling. My hair was already silky (or it doesn't take much to make it so) and the added silkiness was not a good feeling.  One good thing is I can feel my hair getting less prone to tangling of the ends. That was my main problem with my hair anyhow.

I would not buy this again if I'm only using it for my roots. I think a good conditioner could do that. I just don't use conditioner! mwahaha.

Another thing is the scent. It's okay, but I didn't even remember/notice it at first. People always rave about the scent but seriously it is not that great!

I bought this from veryasia.com here but their site annoys me. I had issues with them but everything worked out later. $15.95 for 18.6 fl oz. Shipping is $4.99.

Application:
I like to dab on the foundation first in one area or all over the face. It depends on if your foundation is fast drying or not.

Then take the brush and quickly buff your foundation on. It provides great coverage and a smooth finish!

I love using this to buff in my liquid foundation. I am not a mineral fdn person because of the mess, tapping, etc. What I did like about minerals was how quick I could apply the foundation. This brush allows me to combine two things I want. A fast application and the use of liquid foundation. It's very easy to dab spots of liquid foundation on my brush and buff it all together seamlessly. The fact that it can be done in a couple of minutes is priceless.

I prefer this over a traditional synthetic foundation brush because the surface area is bigger, and I'm able to apply the makeup faster. Also because of the soft sigmax hd filament bristles and buffing motion it won't streak.

For only $16 it is an amazing value!

It's a very pretty nude pink that I've read is a dupe for Mac's Blankity. I love this! I want to try more shades! It's perfect on it's own or paired with a gloss. You don't really need a gloss though since this gives a nice creamy finish.

I highly recommend this lipstick! Have you tried Neutrogena makeup? A lipstick this awesome makes me want to put down the $25+ lipsticks and look into more shades from them!

What is everyone doing for Halloween? I'm not going to any parties (not cool enough) but I will be handing out candy. I actually like doing it! It's fun to see the mini Princesses and Spidermen. I got a bunch of glow sticks for free from CVS after coupon so I think the kids will LOVE that! I'm not going to BE anything, but I may put on dramatic makeup just for fun. I will however be sporting my Día de los Muertos Necklace!

I haven't taken a bath in years [lush reviews]

So that may be misleading. No bath, but I SHOWER every day!! :D Now that that's out of the way...

If anything will make me use my tub it's LUSH. I was never into the bath salts, oils, and whatnot. I did love the occasional bubble bath but I was 10! As the years went on I grew out of that and taking showers is faster (duh) plus I never had the time to draw a bath. I remember in junior high this girl gave me a random bath bomb shaped like a flower, and I was like "wtf am I supposed to do with this."

All these fun Lush products I read about always makes me curious so I bought some this weekend. Plus Joanna sent me a couple Lush items for my bday (thank you!) and spiked my interest again. Didn't hurt that it was tax free weekend so I ran out to the mall. I have been to the Lush store before, but I didn't keep any bath bombs for myself. I also realize I haven't done a review since February.. so here goes.


You've Been Mangoed Bath Melt - $5.95 for 1oz

You've Been Mangoed is bright and breezy, with nutritious mango and avocado butters to make your skin feel as if it's just had a really healthy breakfast and is all set up for the day.

While mango is totally awesome, this was not. I didn't feel like it did much besides smell nice in the water. I liked the lemongrass oil and citrus grass oil but that's it. It's more citrus than mango smelling so the name is misleading. I don't think the value for this is good. It's too small for $6.

I give it an OKAY but I won't repurchase this.

Bare It All while Skinny Dipping, New Fav Lipstick

Wet n Wild has really outdone themselves in 2010! I have never bought a wet n wild product before because I thought they were cheap and crappy. I decided to put that thought aside and try out this lipstick after watching a review on youtube. :P

Blogging has made me more into lipsticks and let me take a second look back at drugstore products. You all know this from my last post on the effects of blogging. I appreciate all the comments! It's good to know I'm not the only one!

Back to the lippie! They looked really pigmented and nice on the video so I popped by my local Walgreens after my stop at the Post Office. I was just here yesterday at looking for EcoTools where I spotted the Wet N Wild Color Icon palettes. They were so pretty, how could I miss them? I totally ignored the lipsticks though! After trying to research the palettes I also came across these lipsticks. Since I'm swimming in eye shadows I thought I'd try some lipsticks. But believe me, I'll be buying those palettes when they're bogo.

Review:
Basically I really like it because it's not drying. It's matte. It's pigmented. It's smooth. No smell. I'm no lipstick expert so I dunno what else to say. I'll update this post when I think of more. I just bought this today! I like these better than the nyx circle lipsticks. Actually I don't really like the nyx circles all that much- drying. My prediction is people will be comparing the two.
I was trying to look for a dupe for the Max Factor below.

So I thought I'd be crazy and put all four of my favorite nude lipsticks on at the same time. haha. It's hard to really tell a difference.

Revlon Soft Nude- great color, the lightest of the bunch
Max Factor Skinny Dip- favorite nude for my medium skin but it's discontinued and old smelling now
Wet n Wild Bare it All- the only matte one. could be more pink
Rimmel Nude Delight- has the most moisture, great color, slightly more orange than the rest. It's between nude attitude and soft nude.

All of these are highly recommended! My skin is lt/medium now so I can't wear Nude Attitude or Elf Nymph.

I don't feel like this photo is color accurate. Everything should be more pink. But they really do look that different on my arms and lips in real life.

Top two color showdown. I still like Skinny Dip better, but Bare It All is close enough that I can stop looking. Adding a pink gloss on top would make it match.

If anyone can recommend MAC cremesheen (or not) nude lipsticks comment below. Such as shy girl or creme d'nude. I think creme d'nude may end up being too light for me.

Dry Shampoo Showdown

Do you wash your hair everyday? I do. If I don't my hair ends up being so greasy. Growing up I heard from people that washing your hair every day is bad for it. Really? I always thought this was strange, because who wants to sport an extra greasy look. I know there were some guys in school who probably never washed their hair. Gross! Well if you have a dry scalp then you're lucky I guess!

What is Dry Shampoo? It's a product (mist or powder) you work into your hair to absorb the oil. Actually baby powder (a talc) works just fine too!

First a look at both of the Dry Shampoos I've tried. Why do I need it? Some days I just get lazy, okay?

Ojon Rub-Out Dry Cleanser, 4.5 oz, $24

My thoughts:
This product actually works really, really well! It gives my unwashed hair a little lift and gets rid of the excess oil. I'm not sure about it "erasing" the product build up. I used this a really long time ago so I can't remember exactly if you could feel this in your hair or not. If you can, it's very, very light.
The bad:
The smell! It smells like an old grandma. Really it smells like this viet dessert from my childhood. I forgot the name of it, but it was sticky and had lotus seed paste I think? Gosh, most people will HATE this smell! I did. The other bad thing is that it gets clogged up easily. Just browse the reviews on sephora and you'll see all the people complaining about it. It wasn't so bad for me because I just bought the travel sized one. It clogged up near the end of it's use- so I was okay with that.

My thoughts:
I feel like what's coming out of this can is very different from what was coming out of the Ojon dry cleanser. The Ojon was more misty, and this was more like hairspray! For me it took more sprays of this stuff to eliminate the oil than it did with the Ojon. The first time I used it I think I used too much because my I could feel it in my hair. The second time I used less, but I could still feel it in my hair. It really reminded me of hairspray because it smells like it too. The best thing about this is the smell, and that's just not good enough for a dry shampoo product.
The bad:
It leaves residue in your hair that you can feel. You get less product for the same price as Ojon. This may get clogged up too. I haven't used it long enough.

The winner? T3! Purely because the smell of Ojon makes it so unusable. Ojon wins hands down on formula, but the T3 still works so it wins. I got a full sized can of the Ojon as a gift, and I exchanged it for the T3 last week. I will continue to use it when I need it, but I won't be purchasing either of these in the future.

Alternatives? Baby powder! I sprinkle it into my hand and then rub that into my roots. Make sure to brush it through with a comb. The scary thing about baby powder is you may miss some and have white powder in your hair.

Also, I heard there's one by bumble and bumble that may work too. I haven't tried it nor do I know the proper name of it.

December My Pretty Pink Box Review

I wanted to post this before December is over! Only a couple more days!!

I finally decided to join in on the whole My Pretty Pink Box (MPPB) madness. I noticed that this month it was eyeshadow heavy. That's really the reason I decided to buy one. Plus I've been craving some new EDM stuff.

My thoughts on the box:

The site claims you will get samples from 6-8 retailers and you will have atleast 2 full-sized products. I got things from 7 retailers and 4 full-sized shadows. So I got everything that was promised! :) Some people like surprises, but I don't when it comes to my money. I kinda wish I could've tried Skin Nutrition, but oh well! That's part of the "fun" of MPPB. You never know what you'll be getting.  MPPB is $10.49 + $3 shipping = $13.49

With the My Pretty Sample Bag you can get 5 items of your choice. I looked at this month's offerings, and I noticed I could've gotten 4 full-sized eyeshadows and 1 lip gloss. Or 2-3 full-sized shadows, plus a sanitizer, and skincare stuff. I think that's a much better deal since I can pick what I want. Instead of getting 6-7 items I may or may not want, I'd get 5 I picked. The EDM is listed on there now and you get 2 eyeshadows! Prolly the same ones I got with my box. So honestly, if I had looked at the Sample bag first, I would've gone with that over the box. It's only a $2 difference so I feel really cheap saying this, haha!

The December box is sold out now, and there's no January box so I would recommend the sample box if you're looking for new companies and products.

So all in all, it is fun to try new companies and not have to pay separate shipping for samples from a bunch of different companies. Linda's shipping is low so that it is a good convenience. If you tried to get samples from 5 different companies, you'd prolly pay $2 per place each, which is already $10 just for shipping. I really admire her business sense for putting all of this together!

The Pretty Red box for Christmas!

Edward Cream, yes really!

What is Edward Cream you ask? My cute sister came up with it. So months ago I gave her some moisturizer I forgot about and didn't need anymore. (it must be good to get loads of free stuff from your big sis) Presenting Neutrogena Illuminating Whip Moisturizer. I don't think they sell this anymore.

I was looking at her collection and noticed that she was using the moisturizer I gave her... "you still use that?" I asked. "Yeah, it's my Edward cream!" she replied. "Yeah, it makes your face sparkle like Edwards!" she added. I forgot how sparkly the moisturizer was until I poked it and smeared it on my hand. And, by golly I realized that it IS Edward cream! It is so friggin ILLUMINATING that I think that's why I stopped using it! I think I originally bought this to help my dry skin. Once my skin stopped being so dry I just stopped using it.

So, I thought of something weird... if you find this stuff.. put it on your boyfriend, and he'll be your Edward vampire for the day (or night)!

Circle Lenses, Pretty & Cute Store

This is my order with the uber-cute lens kits! They arrived safely in lots of bubble wrap placed in a small box. Also, every month there is a raffle, and I just found out that I won for August! Hello Kitty speakers! Thanks so much!

How are the lenses?

I wear acuvue oasis, and I find those really comfortable. When I first tried the circle lens, it was weird I admit. I could feel it on my eyeball. It took a little bit of getting used to. I love to wear them because they make me feel "pretty & cute."

What color?

If you are confused about what color to get, I would try Angel Grey, Nudy Grey, Angel Brown, or the Adult Series ($25). I would also stick to 14mm diameter lenses. Anything bigger than that is not comfortable to me. I have Fresh Looks (14.5mm), and I find them annoying. Also, the Honey Wing series is nice too! Let me know what you got! (or will get!)

First Time for Lenses?

If you are first time contact lens wearer, then I would suggest doing research on how to properly handle contact lenses. Once you do that and are ready to order, don't forget the contact lens kit. It's very handy for first-timers. It has a mirror, mini bottle, padded tweezers, lens case, and of course cute designs!
